The kids had so much fun making new friends, exploring together, and creating together. We had 4 nature classes where we learned about the Mangrove ecosystem. Our ecosystem for January was the Mangrove Ecosystem. We visited 4 parks to compare the similarities and differences. All of our learning is also reinforced at one of our Friday basecamps which has a Mangrove ecosystem on the intercoastal waterway.
Our Wednesday forest school location has been bustling with activity as well. The children cleared out an area of basecamp all by themselves. They created a campsite with seating and an imaginary fire! We painted sticks and palm fronds, created bonds with several trees, and made tree rubbings. We also discovered there is a grapefruit tree nearby! Every Wednesday we end our time together by walking the nature trail. We spend some time by the lake searching for the female alligator. We always find the Limpins, Ibis, and Blue Herons by the waters edge looking for food.
Our second basecamp on Fridays is also full of activity. We friended trees at this location as well. We painted pinecones, worked on our house, climbed and walked on our long log, and have fun exploring our area. We also end our day with nature walks at this location as well.
We have 14 weeks left in our winter semester! Come join us as we learn about the Oak Hammocks this month.
